During the early 1940s, the German Luftwaffe operated the tropical version of the famous Messerschmitt Bf 109 from airfields in the North American theatre. Using this aircraft, Otto Schulz became a noted pilot during this campaign. He was nicknamed “One-two-three-Otto” by his friends because of his talent of shooting down several British aircraft in a row and he became one of the most successful German pilots during the campaign.
